2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION and OPERATING REQUIREMENTS

The Compix® PC2000 has three principal components: the camera head, the interface card or PC2000/e control module, and the Thermal Evaluation Software, WinTES95. The camera head contains the infrared sensor, mirrors, motors, and circuitry to capture and digitize the image data. The interface card contains the control electronics, and digital circuitry required to communicate with the PC. Calibration parameters are stored in the camera head allowing cameras to be interchanged between PC2000/e modules or PC2000 circuit cards without compromising calibration. The camera head must be mounted on a tripod or other stable fixture. Other than the Personal Computer which contains the interface card, no other accessories or supplies are required.

The PC2000 system has been designed to operate in a typical engineering, factory or sheltered field environment. The system requires a stable surface and well-ventilated work space at normal room temperatures. The 2000/e also requires access to a three-prong outlet carrying standard U.S. 115-120 VAC current. (Optional 240 VAC operation is available.)

The camera head should be located within ten feet (three meters) of the imaging computer or PC2000/e module. An interface cable of this length is provided. Cable extensions are not recommended. The /e interface module is connected to the PC via a standard parallel printer cable. This second cable is included with the PC2000/e and extensions are not recommended.

The camera head should be firmly attached to a stable tripod or mounting stand. The standard fittings are for a 1/4"- 20 threaded male connector, the type normally found on photographic equipment.

The camera should be treated with the same caregiven a good visible light camera or other optical instrument. Minor vibration can noticeably reduce image quality; major vibration or shock could result in damage. And even though the longer wave-length of IR energy makes it less sensitive to dirt, care should still be taken to keep the mirrors and detector window clean. (See Section 8, Maintenance.)

NOTE

There are no components on the PC-circuit-board interface, in the PC2000/e interface module, or inside the camera head designed for user service or adjustment. Removing the cover of the camera or interface unit may void the warranty. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THE SYSTEM BE OPERATED WITHOUT THE COVERS IN PLACE.

WinTES95

The WinTES95 software is distributed on two 3.5" HD diskettes.

The software has been designed to work with 100% IBM compatible personal computers(PC's) running Windows 95 and using a 486-100MHz or better processor. Experience has shown that it will also run on many other brands but no attempt has been made to test the PC2000 or WinTES95 on the myriad computers and peripherals on the market.

The display system must be capable of supporting the VGA standard.

Each thermal image stored on disk occupies just under 95k of disk storage space when stored as a TIFF. When stored as a Compix(.cpx) file it occupies approximately 190k.
