8. MAINTENANCE

Calibration

It is recommended that instrument performance be verified at least once a year. The instrument should be compared against a calibrated blackbody source. In the event of a significant discrepancy or for any component failure, it is recommended the instrument be returned to the factory for repair and recalibration.

General

The exterior of the camera or PC2000/e module can be dusted with either clean, low pressure air or a clean, soft cloth. For more persistent dirt, scrub gently with a damp cloth.

Mirrors

The camera has a flat scanning mirror and a concave, circular focusing mirror. Both are visible through the camera aperture. The first is in the middle of the aperture; the second, above it.

Inspect these mirrors periodically. If used in a relatively dust-free environment and if the aperture is covered while the system is not in use they should'nt need frequent cleaning . Remember, infrared is a longer wave-length than visible light, so the PC2000 is less sensitive to dirt than a visible light system. When the mirrors are visibly dusty, clean them as follows:

Remove the plastic bezel surrounding the camera's aperture. Using a .050" hex driver, unscrew the two set screws on each side, near the back, about half way. It is not necessary to remove them completely.

With the camera firmly supported and facing you, grasp the bezel on both sides and gently slide it forward. It may help to carefully reach inside with your thumbs and press outward on the sides of the bezel while pulling forward. When the bezel is off, set it aside.

Turning the focusing knob to the high end of its scale will move the focusing mirror to where it can be easily reached.

The cleaning techniques for the mirrors are the same as for a high quality camera lens. Usually dust can be removed with a blast of clean, low pressure air or a soft, gentle brush. For more thorough cleaning, use a non-abrasive, lint-free cloth with either a photographic wetting agent or alcohol.

Replace the bezel by reversing the steps to remove it. The set screws should be tightened flush with the surface of the bezel, no further.
